A Road Management Plan (RMP) is a report that is prepared following a study or investigation, which generally provides both an overview of the existing traffic operational safety issues identified along certain corridors in South Australia, as well as recommendations for remedial improvements.

RMP’s can identify initiatives, potential short to medium term road projects and or major projects, that will develop our transport system and identify road improvement priorities in both metropolitan and rural areas. These priorities are also assessed against the Integrated Transport and Land Use Plan for the promotion of the use of public transport, cycling and walking.

Any recommendations identified as a part of any RMP are generally unfunded. Funding for any improvements need to be considered against other statewide priorities in future financial years. This approach ensures that the funds available each year are allocated to the projects where the greatest benefit can be provided to the community as a whole.

The current priorities for major road projects in the longer term in South Australia are detailed within the 20-year State Infrastructure Strategy for South Australia.
