Passengers to hail the return of managed taxi ranks
Friday, 25 November 2022
Concierge services at busy taxi ranks across Adelaide are being restored, providing improved night safety and travel efficiency for passengers and drivers.
From next Friday (2 December), the Taxi Council of South Australia will manage taxi ranks at priority locations through a grant until 2026.
The return of concierge services at taxi ranks will provide added peace of mind for people travelling on Friday and Saturday nights from popular city locations, including Hindley Street, Adelaide Casino and Glenelg.
Services will also be available for the corners of King William Street and Rundle Mall and of Pulteney Street and Rundle Street.
Orderly queuing and faster, secure access to taxis will assist drivers at priority locations while improving the night travel experience for passengers. The reinstated managed taxi ranks will operate at alternating city locations to be determined by demand.
Managed taxi ranks help to improve the flow of patrons leaving events and deter anti-social behaviour.
The provision of a concierge service will also encourage multiple-passenger rides that increase capacity, limit wait times and help reduce carbon emissions.
