About the study
As part of our Northern Adelaide Transport Planning, we are undertaking targeted planning investigations on key corridors in Northern Adelaide to identify infrastructure and service improvements required to support the ongoing growth of the northern suburbs of Adelaide.
Planning is shifting from a regional to a corridor-based approach to better enhance transport and support liveability in the area. This work will continue to refine the initial planning carried out as part of the Northern Adelaide Transport Study.

What's happening
The northern suburbs of Adelaide are home to various industries that support the South Australian economy, including freight, supply and logistics, defence, and local manufacturing. This work aims to create efficient movement of people and freight throughout the region to support its ongoing economic growth.
To support the rapid population growth within the region, investment in transport infrastructure is critical to ensure communities are well supported by an efficient, and safe, transport network.
We are exploring ways to improve public transport, aiming to reduce private vehicle use, cut congestion, and support healthier communities.
Current Projects
Current projects within the study area include:
- Curtis Road Level Crossing Removal
- Curtis Road and Heaslip Road Roundabout
- Curtis Road and Andrews Road Upgrade
- (Developer led upgrade, jointly funded 60:40 by the State Government and the City of Playford)
We are also undertaking a Curtis Road Reference Design to further build on planning work already completed for this corridor and to help inform future transport planning and guide government investment.
Community engagement
Engaging with stakeholders and the community is essential to ensure that our planning processes are informed by the valuable local knowledge of individuals who live, work, and travel within the region.
Based on previous engagement in the northern areas carried out as part of the Northern Adelaide Transport Study, key areas identified for improvement at the local level include congestion, travel time delays and reliability, user safety, and east/west movements.
As the project advances, we will continue our engagement efforts to consult with local communities and keep them informed throughout the planning study process.
