Cooper Creek flood response

Heavy rainfall in Southwest Queensland has caused water to enter South Australia's far north-east via Thomson, Barcoo, Diamantina, Warburton and Cooper Creek catchments.

Cooper Creek barge

A Cooper Creek crossing barge service is expected to commence in late October 2025.

We are currently finalising operating hours, capacity and an online booking system for heavy vehicles. We will provide more information as soon as possible.

We appreciate your patience and understanding while we finalise arrangements for service commencement.

What's happening now

All critical components required to construct the Cooper Creek barge crossing barge have arrived in Adelaide. They are currently undergoing essential upgrades in preparation for installation at Cooper Creek.

On site works, including piling and road remediation, to prepare the crossing site for the arrival of the barge are also underway.

Following completion of barge upgrades in Adelaide, the barge will be transported to the Cooper Creek crossing site in 12 modules, which will then be assembled on site.
