GEH Tenants must use this form to apply for approval from the landlord or landlord’s agent to keep a pet on a premises rented under a Residential Tenancy Agreement (RTA).

About the Pet(s)
Note: Renters must seek permission from the landlord (GEH) to keep a pet and they are liable if the pet causes damage.
I understand that I must comply with the Local Council’s requirements and South Australia’s dog and cat desexing law, including the following.
- Dogs and cats must be registered with the Local Council.
- Dogs and cats must be microchipped.
- Desexing is compulsory in SA for all dogs and cats born after 1 July 2018. Cats and dogs have to be desexed by the age of six months, or within 28 days of when taking possession of a new animal.

Acknowledgement by tenant
I am seeking approval to keep the pet(s) stated above at the rental premises. I understand that:
- I am responsible for any nuisance or interference with the reasonable peace, comfort or privacy of others who reside in the immediate vicinity of the premises;
- I am responsible for keeping the premises and ancillary property in a reasonable state of cleanliness and must replace or compensate the landlord for the reasonable cost of replacing any ancillary property lost or destroyed while in the care of a tenant;
- I am required to notify the landlord of damage to the premises or ancillary property;
- I am required to give the premises and ancillary property back to the landlord in reasonable condition at the end of the tenancy; and
- I acknowledge that a landlord may be entitled to compensation if they reasonably incur costs and expenses as a direct consequence of a tenant being at fault in connection with the RTA.
Note: local council laws may limit the number or types of animals that can be kept at the premises, and that strata or community title premises are governed by their own by-laws or rules which occupants are required to follow.
