VACATING

NOTICE REQUIRED

Please provide Government Employee Housing (GEH) with as much notice as possible of the date you intend to vacate.

Under the terms of your lease, you are legally required to provide a minimum of 21 days notice in writing. Failure to give the required notice, will result in rent continuing to be charged for the full 21 days. You should submit your notice of intention to vacate using the link provided.

Once GEH receive your notice to vacate, confirmation of your intention to vacate the residence will be e-mailed to you. This confirmation will include who you need to contact to arrange your exit inspection, along with information detailing your vacancy requirements.

REMINDERS WHEN MOVING OUT

The Key Agent will only complete your exit inspection once the property has been cleaned and all furniture and belongings have been removed from the property. Goods left for more than 60 days in an unoccupied house are legally regarded as ‘Abandoned Goods’ and may be sold. Rent will continue to be charged to tenants whose personal belongings are still located on the premises.

All keys and remotes must be returned to the designated Key Agent. Until your keys are returned, your rent will continue to be charged. Return of keys signifies that you have finalised all cleaning and/or repairs at the property and are handing in the keys ready for the exit inspection. You must ensure the premises and gardens are presented for the final inspection in a clean and tidy condition in accordance with the GEH Tenant Vacancy Requirements.

Please note that rent is deducted from your payroll fortnightly in arrears, therefore there will always be at least one payment deducted after you vacate.

You should make arrangements for final readings in respect of your services such as gas and electricity and contact your telecommunications supplier to cancel the phone/internet services. Contact Australia Post to have your mail redirected. Gas bottles at the property, should remain in situ.
