South Australian traffic management documents
Our South Australian documents complement the Austroads Guide to Temporary Traffic Management (AGTTM).
The primary reference: AGTTM
The AGTTM is the main national reference for temporary traffic management. It was released in 2021 to create a consistent approach across Australia.
Visit Austroads to download their Guide to Temporary Traffic Management.
South Australian-specific requirements
While we follow the national guide, South Australia has specific legislation and conditions. These are outlined in:
- South Australian Standards for Workzone Traffic Management (SA Standards)
- Supplement to Australian Standard 1742.3 Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices – Part 3: Traffic Control for Works on Roads (Supplement to AS 1742.3).
SA Standards
The SA Standards complement the AGTTM by focusing only on South Australian requirements. It outlines the differences, such as the 25 km/h speed limit through worksites.
The latest version does not have any new information. We have streamlined this document to remove information already covered in the AGTTM or AS 1742.3.

Supplement to AS 1742.3
This supplement shows where South Australian practices differ from the national standards. It also provides extra information where needed.

Traffic Control Devices for Workzone Traffic Management Field Guide
From February 2027, this field guide (PDF, 3.5 MB) will be withdrawn as Traffic Guidance Schemes will need to be prepared by a qualified Traffic Management Designer.
Designers can visit Austroads to find supporting sample guidance for road worksites in Part 9: Sample Layouts of the AGTTM.
