Metropolitan taxi fares
From 1 October 2026, metropolitan taxi fares will increase by 3.3%, in line with the State Government’s indexation rate. The increase will apply to the per kilometre travel cost and waiting time cost. There are no changes to flagfall amounts.
New taxi fare stickers will be provided to taxi operators to display in all vehicles.
The Department for Infrastructure and Transport will contact Taxi Centralised Booking Services shortly to make these arrangements.
The maximum country taxi fare will also increase by 3.3%, to ensure it continues to be 20% higher than the regulated metropolitan fares.
Point-to-Point Transport Service Levy
From 1 October 2026, the Point-to-Point Transport Service Levy will increase by 3.3%, in line with the State Government’s indexation rate.
The adjusted total will be rounded to the nearest 10 cents, to $2.10. Alignment with indexation over future years will be monitored and adjusted as required.
The levy will continue to be used to deliver the Taxi Industry Reform Package, alongside a portion of the Adelaide Airport Service Fee that is paid to the State Government by Adelaide Airport.
Annual taxi licence fee
From 1 December 2026, an annual fee will be introduced for taxi licences.
Last year, the State Government cancelled perpetual metropolitan taxi licences and began issuing uncapped annual taxi licences. To support operators during the transition, fees were waived to obtain a new annual taxi licence.
Once fees are in effect:
- existing licence holders will pay an annual fee for renewals
- new industry participants will pay the annual fee to obtain an annual licence.
The new annual licence fee will be $114.
The change provides for consistent annual fees for taxi, chauffer and rideshare vehicles.
Access taxis will continue to operate under special taxi licences. There are no changes to the licence fees for access taxis.
Annual driver accreditation fee
From 1 December 2026, changes will be introduced for driver accreditation.
Changes include:
- reintroducing an annual driver accreditation fee and card issuing fee for each renewal period
- increasing the maximum duration accreditation may be held from three to five years.
Fees include:
- annual driver accreditation fee of $30
- card issuing fee of $22
Drivers will only be charged the card issuing fee once for each renewal period.
The fee covers Service SA administrative costs.
The replacement fee for issuing a new accreditation or licence that has been lost or damaged will be reduced from $76 to $22 in line with the new accreditation card issue fee.
Current safeguards for driver accreditation will continue to apply. A driver accreditation will be revoked or cancelled if a driver no longer meets the legal requirements for passenger transport (for example, loss of licence or breaches safety duties), or as a result of disciplinary action.
